Go to www.loran.org, and click on the March 2004 Newsletter....the USCG and
FAA have signed onto an agreement to retain Loran C as a backup to GPS.

Small world. I went to an interesting talk at a NASA conference last
week <http://spacecom.grc.nasa.gov/icnsconf/2004/NASA_ICNS_Conf_2004_Agenda.pdf>
on GPS/Loran. The co-author gave the presentation and interstingly
enough is the president of ILA and is also from Locus. The SatMate
1030 <http://www.locusinc.com/satmate.html> (spec:
is the unit they're prototyping for aviation applications. There's a
definite push to not only retain Loran but also to bring it into the
digital age ;)

Must have been Dr. Linn Roth. It's coming, for sure.

Yep. Good presenter and a nice guy, too. I'm not a LORAN guy by any
means, but he mentioned that a 9th pulse is being added. My
understanding is that it's a requirement for timing now that any
station has the potential to be a Master.
